I’m Francis Lortie, proud owner of Martel Mortgages.

I’ve always relished helping people and had a passion for real estate and numbers, so the mortgage industry seemed like a natural fit as the business provides incredible work satisfaction and makes the best use of my core skills. I’ve been in the mortgage industry for seven years now, have co-owned the company with my business partner Jessica Rickerby for five years, and I have been the principal broker for three years.

Over the past couple of years, I have noticed that the government has been tightening the rules, and brought in new norms such as the stress test. With these changes in place, I believe it’s more important than ever to consult with a mortgage broker to discover all possible options when buying a home.

Helping first time home buyers secure their property creates a magnificent feeling for me. To be part of this huge milestone is very special. I want to retain these customers for life, and this is why I treat them like family and speak from the heart. The truth is that sometimes I need to have an awkward conversation with clients about their financial status, which is not pleasant but being honest helps them move in a better economic path.

As an individual, I believe what has put me on the road to success and sets me apart from the others is my honesty and integrity. Working with transparency allows me to build trust with my clients and sow the seeds for a prosperous business.

Although there have been many hurdles in business, through hard work and determination, I have overcome every challenge. Buying the brokerage has given me the most gratification and securing the best rates for my clients almost doesn’t feel like work.

When I am not helping my clients, I love to spend time with my two boys and my beautiful wife. We have traveled a lot as a family ever since my first child was very young. It keeps us connected as a family and broadens my horizons through imbibing new cultures.
